Preventative dental health

FREE veterinary nurse led dental clinics with the aim to prevent or manage dental disease.

Gum disease is the most common disease in adult pets, it is estimated that over 80% of our pets have dental problems. Many of these will require extensive dental treatment and possible removal of multiple teeth if left unmanaged.

The disease begins when bacteria stick to the surface of your pets teeth, forming an off white sticky layer called plaque. If plague isn’t removed it hardens to form tartar, which is a rough, brown deposit, within days. Over time the bacteria within these substances causes gum inflammation which eventually leads to tooth instability and loss.

Unfortunately once dental disease has occurred we are unable to cure it but we can manage it to prevent further damage. We offer free, veterinary nurse led, dental clinics with the aim to prevent or manage dental disease.

On your first visit with a young animal our veterinary nurses will discuss preventative measures including types of diet, treats, toys and toothbrushing. With an adult animal we will assess their teeth and gums. We will also discuss diet and preventative measures including guiding you through introducing toothbrushing to your pet. Don’t worry it’s easier than you think!
